I know, I know… you come home from work and you're faced with the dilemma of either going to the gym or a yoga class, or settling down to cook something healthy. If you live in the city, it's always easy to pick something [healthy] up on the way home from the gym. But not all of us have that option and so often, physical exercise takes second place to every thing else in our busy daily lives.
Moving our body is essential for our health!
As I wrote in my personal note, when I started to cook my exercise routine went downhill. I have to admit that being a NEW FOODIE, I allowed myself to believe that that eating well was going to clear all my health concerns.
I was naïve, and so into my cooking and learning new recipes that I spent all of my time doing only that. And after years of being a health counselor I still tell my clients to find the balance! Once I got back into my exercise routine my body was like… HELLO- thanks for remembering me!
I was on a phone session recently with one of my East Coast clients. We were talking about cravings. I asked her, "Does your body crave exercise?"
She said that she used to know that feeling but did not anymore.
Have you experienced that feeling?
Do you know what THAT feeling "tastes" like?
Feels like?
It's a rush…let me tell you. The endorphins in our brain go off and there's no turning back. They want more, they need more and then once you're hooked the feeling keeps saying FEED ME- MOVE ME- I need to be worked! Not a bad "trip"…eh?
A few years ago, I was on a run in Golden Gate Park. Now I didn't really like running too much at the time but suddenly I actually felt the "lights" go on and the endorphins working. Once I experienced that feeling there was no turning back.
I was hooked and there has rarely been a day since, that I haven't done something to move my body.
So how's your exercise life going?
Does it feel easy, do you have a routine, are there things you love to do and can't wait to do. Are there some poses or machines you avoid? If so, I can relate. Since going to physical therapy I'm learning ALL about my glutes- HUH! Never used them so much.
I'd like you to make a list of 3 physical activities you enjoy.
Remember, gardening counts- that's tons of upper bodywork.
Now tune into when you enjoy doing those 3 things?
Are you a morning, afternoon, or evening exerciser?
Knowing this makes a difference.
I'm a morning exerciser and if I don't see to it that I move my body before 10 am I'm pretty grouchy…unless I KNOW that I'm going to do it later…meaning there's a plan. If I leave it to chance there is just no way it's going to happen. I know that about myself.
What do you know about yourself and exercise?
Now pull out your day planner. Yes, I mean it- Lots of things get scheduled. Work, movies with the friends, meetings… We are going to create a foolproof exercise plan for the next 3 months. (starting with the next 2 weeks)
So write in when you are going to exercise and what kind of exercise you want to do, over these next 2 weeks. In the future it will become more organic, but if this is a challenge for you it's good to have an exact plan.
As always I'll be very curious to see how it goes.
So let me know. And if this seems challenging to you please email us at FWH for support. Our programs include creating a routine (that you love) around exercise.
We are having a free introduction evening to share more about our programs. Check out upcoming events below or call me and we can do a free session over the phone.
It just takes a little planning. We want you to feel healthy and for you to love the body you live in!
